In 2005, my wife Angela and I brought together some of Guyana's best musicians and entertainers and hosted one of the largest concerts for Guyana. The concert was held at the University Of South Florida.. Marshall Hall. We raised $10,000.00 for the Guyana Flood Relief victims, $3000.00 was donated to the Guyana Relief Council. The presentation was received by Ms Yvonne Hinds here inTampa. The balance of $7000.00 remained with Guyana Flood Relief in NY.
We had put great effort into this venture ,especially Angela who made sure that all entertainers from out of town had good accommodations , and paid travel expense. In all, the project was a success.
We both learned a lot from this endeavour. This was our learning tree
and I promise next time around will be even more fantastic, It has been almost 2 years since this gathering of Guyana's finest musicians
I think it is time for another meeting, this time it should be a musical celebration.. Yes, I think we should celebrate our musical past and raise funds to prepare young Guyanese musicians for a better future. |
